Barcelona – Latest initiatives for a 360º Approach to Talent Attraction and Retention
Trained as an Economist at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB), Judith Romera holds other postgraduate studies in Economics, Local Development and International Affairs. She also has previous experience at the United Nations Secretariat in New York and was a lecturer at different universities.
Since 2001, Judith has been working to promote Barcelona as a business and talent destination and is Head of City Promotion at Barcelona City Council. During this period, she has gained extensive experience in city marketing and has been involved in different missions abroad to promote Barcelona’s key strategic sectors, leading different projects to attract and help foreign companies to set up, expand or do business in the Barcelona area. For the last decade, she has been in charge of developing the strategy to attract and facilitate the arrival and integration of international professionals moving to live and work in the city.
In 2014 Judith was involved in the creation of Barcelona International Community Day, the meeting point for international citizens residing in our city. Held each year since its first edition, it has become a benchmark event packed with activities relating to the most pressing issues not just for Barcelona’s newcomers but also for any expats who have already been living in the city for several years.
The Barcelona International Welcome website was launched in 2019 as a platform for international talent willing to move to our city. It provides practical information, including priority procedures and an agenda of activities throughout the year. To complement all these resources, the Barcelona International Welcome Desk was created in 2022, a custom support service for international talent, offering information, support, expert advice and processing of some key formalities.

The City Promotion Department organises other initiatives to position Barcelona as a start-up and innovation hub to attract not only companies and investments, but also entrepreneurs, investors, highly qualified professionals (especially in the digital sector), students and digital nomads.
Judith Romera will be talking about the Barcelona 360º strategy for international talent and will share thoughts, new projects and ideas to attract and retain these international citizens who bring creativity and innovative proposals to our economy and society.
